100 Strangers - 100 étrangers
Read More6/100 - Darragh
I am fortunate to work in downtown Ottawa where there is a constant supply of (mostly willing) subjects for my 100 strangers project. When I walk around during my lunch hour, I look for people that that don't fit the norm. The "norm", at least in downtown, public servant Ottawa is not standing out from the crowd. I started the project in December, so perhaps the season is a factor, but most people wear a dark coloured coat and don't have much colour showing, though you do see splashes of brightly coloured scarves and toques.
I saw Darragh with his dog Grizlee on Sparks Street. I noticed him, but kept walking a few steps when I decided that photographing Darragh would be much more interesting than heading back into work. When I introduced the project to him, he graciously agreed to pose for a few minutes. We proceeded down the street a bit from where i was coming. I thought it would be a good spot for the photo, and Darragh was OK with it as well.
He explained to me that he would grew up on the Quebec side of the river, near Thurso, helping his father with the farm. He is currently living in Ottawa with his girlfriend and they are expecting a child soon. He wasn't working today and was simply walking around with his dog, enjoying the warm weather, despite an injury that kept him for working for now.
